Minimizing the contrast exposure and using the least nephrotoxic contrast are critical in angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with pre-existing chronic kidney disease (CKD). Multiple exposures, especially within a short period of time (24–72 hours), can increase the risk of contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) and should be avoided.
The doctors at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center have established a strategy for “ultra-low” contrast angiography (ULCA). Learn more about the strategy in this substantive case video series.
